NCAA’s mission is to promote the Canberra tourism industry, to work collaboratively as a peak body for the industry and provide a forum for marketing, information sharing, discussing issues and networking.
Who we are
The National Capital Attractions Association (NCAA) is an industry body representing tourism businesses in the Canberra Region. The NCAA was established in 1990 and includes among its membership, government funded national attractions, private attractions, tourism services, events and venues, natural attractions, and tourism retail businesses.
The NCAA’s mission is to work collaboratively to promote its members with the focus on increasing tourism visitation to the Canberra region. The NCAA provides a forum for information sharing, discussing topics, and networking among industry. The NCAA is active in lobbying on behalf of the tourism industry sector with government and other bodies, as well as promoting the Canberra Region destination through events, promotion, and publications.
As the NCAA represents a significant segment of the Canberra Region’s tourism product, the members work closely with VisitCanberra and the ACT Government in enhancing this product through partnership programs and collaborative marketing.
The NCAA is guided by an Executive Board and employs a General Manager. The members meet each month to discuss programs, collaborative marketing opportunities and impacts on the cultural tourism sector in Canberra. The NCAA Executive also meet each month and make decisions on the direction of NCAA, advocacy, partnership activities, membership topics and financial management.
NCAA sit on the Australian Tourism Industry Council Board (ATIC) and manage and run the Quality Tourism Framework which includes Canberra Region Tourism Awards program and events, Accreditation and Star Ratings. These programs are run nationally in every state/territory.
The Quality Tourism Framework (QTF) is a national business development program that is suitable for tourism businesses of all shapes and sizes. It provides businesses with the necessary tools and resources to ensure best practice management, customer confidence and the ongoing sustainability.
The annual Canberra Region Tourism Awards (CRTA) provide an opportunity to showcase the best of our region’s tourism operators as well as promote, encourage, and reward tourism excellence. Entry is open to all businesses and suppliers to the tourism industry and serve to demonstrate the value of tourism to Canberra Region.
The National Capital Educational Tourism Project (NCETP) is a collaborative marketing project, with the aim of encouraging schools throughout Australia to see the educational benefits of visit to Canberra. The NCETP deliver a range of marketing and teacher professional development activities that showcase the pivotal role Canberra’s cultural institutions have in exposing students to the key elements of Australian democracy, history and heritage, science and art and how, through their education programs, can assist teachers to deliver curriculum outcomes.
